Having my communion this morning I was struck by the fact that most of the time people, things and animals do not look their potential. The David Goliath saw did not look like a warrior let alone the warrior who would put an end to his arrogance.

The ravens that fed the prophet Elijah did not look like generous birds, not even the poor widow of Zarephath looked like the one who would sustain Elijah through the famine.

This tells me that looks are truly not as ‘important’ as men make them out to be. For though my three case studies did not look the part, they were it. They had been equipped for the job and delivered. These were all destiny helpers to people. David to Israel, ravens to Elijah, widow of Zarephath to Elijah…how easy it would have been to miss them simply because they don’t look it.

May we learn to see people, circumstances and things through God’s eyes least we miss out of God’s plans for us.*

For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7b

*As much as the “container” is good remember the “content” is ever better.

PS: Do let God guide you to be properly balanced in this. It is not an excuse to reason to go about looking shabbily simply because people, things, circumstances don’t look what they really are most often and generally.
